How to Make Your Candle Last Longer: The Secrets to a Perfect Burn

There’s something truly special about lighting a candle that soft flicker, the gentle release of fragrance, and the instant sense of calm it brings. But if your beautiful candle starts tunnelling, smoking, or burning unevenly, the experience can quickly lose its magic.

At Aroma Bay, we believe every candle deserves to burn as beautifully as it was crafted. Here are a few simple care tips to help you enjoy a longer, cleaner, and more luxurious burn every time.

1. Trim the Wick Before Every Burn

Before lighting your candle, always trim the wick to about 5mm. A long wick can cause the flame to flicker too high, leading to soot, smoke, or uneven melting.
A short, clean wick keeps the flame steady allowing your candle to burn longer and more evenly while releasing a consistent scent throw.

Tip: Use a wick trimmer or small scissors, and remove any blackened “mushroom” tops before each light.

2. Let It Form a Full Melt Pool

During your first burn, allow the wax to melt completely across the surface right to the edges of the jar.
This sets the candle’s “burn memory” and prevents tunnelling (that frustrating hole down the centre).
For most medium-sized Aroma Bay candles, this takes about 2–3 hours.

Think of it as the candle’s warm up phase once set, it’ll burn perfectly every time after.

3. Avoid Burning for Too Long

While it’s tempting to keep the candle glowing all night, it’s best to limit each burn to no more than 4 hours.
Extended burns can overheat the glass, cause the wick to move, or create excessive soot.
Give your candle time to rest, cool, and reset its fragrance throw for the next use.

4. Keep It Away from Drafts

Air movement from fans, open windows, or air conditioners can disturb the flame making it flicker and burn unevenly.
Always place your candle on a flat, stable surface, away from breezes, to preserve that clean, even glow.

5. Store It Like a Treasure

When not in use, store your candle in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight.
Heat and light can fade fragrances and discolor wax. Keeping the lid on (like Aroma Bay’s rose gold design) also helps preserve the scent and keep dust out.

A Little Care Goes a Long Way

Luxury candles are more than décor they’re a sensory ritual, a moment of calm in your day. With these simple care habits, you’ll extend the life of your Aroma Bay candle and enjoy its full beauty from the first light to the very last.

So next time you strike that match, take a moment to create the perfect burn because true relaxation deserves nothing less.
